Fort Worth Stockyards Guide: Where the West Comes Alive

The Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is one of the most iconic destinations in Texas. This 98-acre district has been the heart of Texas cattle culture since 1866, and today it blends authentic Western heritage with world-class entertainment.

The Daily Cattle Drive

Twice daily at 11:30 AM and 4:00 PM, a herd of Texas Longhorns parades down East Exchange Avenue — the only twice-daily cattle drive in the world. The drovers wear authentic 1800s-era clothing, and the Longhorns are genuine descendants of the original herds. It's completely free to watch.

Pro Tip: Arrive 15 minutes early and stand near the Livestock Exchange Building for the best photos. The afternoon drive has better lighting for photography.

Best Restaurants in the Stockyards

Lonesome Dove Western Bistro

Chef Tim Love's flagship restaurant serves elevated Western cuisine. The kangaroo carpaccio and bone-in cowboy ribeye are legendary. Reservations essential.

Joe T. Garcia's

A Fort Worth institution since 1935. The enchiladas and fajitas are served family-style in a stunning garden patio. Cash only — there's an ATM on-site.

Cattlemen's Steak House

Operating since 1947, this is where the real cowboys eat. The hand-cut steaks are aged in-house and cooked over mesquite wood.

Love Shack

Chef Tim Love's casual burger joint. The "Dirty Love Burger" with green chiles and queso is a must-try. Great for lunch before the cattle drive.

Nightlife & Entertainment

Billy Bob's Texas is the crown jewel — a 127,000 sq ft honky-tonk with 32 bar stations, live bull riding on weekends, and concerts from major country artists. Past performers include Willie Nelson, George Strait, and Garth Brooks.

White Elephant Saloon is the oldest bar in the Stockyards (est. 1887). Live music every night with no cover charge on weekdays.

Second Rodeo Brewing combines craft beer with a Western atmosphere. Their "Bucking Bronco IPA" is brewed on-site.
